Jean Woods, DDS, FAGD, a gifted clinician, loves dentistry and loves to help treat, protect and maintain one of your greatest assets: your smile! Dr. Woods possess the ability to provide the very highest level of comprehensive dental care to her patients.

From professional cleanings and our Flossing 101 class to wisdom teeth extraction and implant placement, Dr. Woods delivers dental care empathetically, with your comfort and satisfaction as her major concern. Dr. Jean Woods graduated from the University of North Carolina with her Doctorate of Dental Surgery in 1991, and received her Certificate of Implant Surgery in 2004 from Medical College of Georgia. She practiced as an associate dentist for two years in Charlotte, NC (1990-1992) after dental school before returning home to Chapel Hill to begin her private practice.

As a testament to her commitment to continuing education, she was granted the status of Fellow from the Academy of General Dentistry, receiving this status in 2005 after completing over 500 hours of continuing education. This required an intense focus on the latest and most-beneficial technologies, procedures, and techniques, all centered on patient satisfaction.

In The Community

Dr. Woods’ effort to improve dental care and overall quality of life in the Chapel Hill-Carrboro and Durham, NC, communities is accomplished through mentorship and charity work. She donates to very specific foundations of dear friends, including:

  • The USPORT Foundation, a sports organization for school age kids
  • The Vet-to-Vet Foundation, training animals to partner with disabled veterans who are often dismissed and forgotten when they come home from the military
  • Blue Shadow Farm, a horse sanctuary that takes care of unwanted horses
  • Shadow Program, which is designed to introduce others to the field of dentistry
  • Youth Community Project, a Chapel Hill-Carrboro initiative to get teenagers off the streets and involved in creative expression

She is also the founder of the Jean Woods Foundation, which was founded to provide dental care and funding for scholarships and educational and environmental projects locally, nationally and internationally. Dr. Woods also provides grants to many international foundations, and both government and non-government organizations for a variety of charitable purposes. She proudly serves as a mentor to many teenagers and young adults, and has sacrificed to make sure they have the same opportunities as other privileged kids in the area.

Outside The Office

Dr. Woods is a native of Chapel Hill, NC, and currently live just three miles from where she grew up! Her personal passions are equally as important as her passion for dentistry. She has skied for 25 years and raced (downhill giant slalom) for the past 20 years at the amateur level. She loves horseback riding and has saved over 15 horses by taking in rescue horses and nursing them to health, then making sure they get to a loving, caring owner that loves horses as much as she does.

In addition to her professional memberships, she served as the membership chairperson of the North Carolina Academy of General Dentistry for six years (2001-2007). She also served as deputy examiner for the North Carolina State Board of Dental Examiners, of which she was the youngest ever to serve.
